Family Vacations

Here in the heart of the Saint John River Valley, your outdoor adventure can last all year long.....

Local Community Links are posted on the Lodging/Contact Page.

Spring

In this part of the country, spring means that the rivers and lakes are open for canoeing and kayaking.  With the Allagash Wilderness Waterway and the Saint John River here in our backyard, we can get you started on a wonderful outdoor experience.  There are also some fantastic hiking and biking trails and well-marked ATV trails here in the area.

There are times when spring arrives a bit later in this neck of the woods................ but it is always well worth the wait.

Summer

Summer in The County is a wonderful time.  The Valley has something to offer everyone.

Whether you spend your time hiking, riding ATVs, camping, biking, canoeing or taking daytrips to the surrounding communities; your days can be as busy or as relaxing as you want.

Sit alone by Fish River in Fort Kent                                        Or swim with friends at Deboullie Pond in The North Maine Woods

There are many summer events in our local towns...The Acadian Festival, Rally in the Valley, the Annual Wesget-Sipu Pow Wow, Ploye Festival and Fort Kent International Muskie Festival and much, much more.

Fall

Fall is not the end of vacation season, but a time to enjoy a slower pace.  As the local farmers gear up for the potato harvest and the students head back to school, the air takes on a decidedly crisper note. The shortening of the days brings a riot of color here in the Valley, and there is nothing like a walk along the riverbank to refresh the soul.

Winter

Winter in the Upper Saint John River Valley tends to start early and end late making it our longest season.  So it should come as no surprise that the area has a lot of outdoor activities to keep you busy during your winter vacation.

From downhill skiing in Fort Kent, snowshoeing and cross-country skiing on local community ski trails, snowmobiling on over 2,000 miles of well-groomed trails, to Fort Kent's Mardi Gras, the Can-Am Crown Sled Dog Races, and in 2009, the IBU World Cup Biathlon; the Valley has a lot to offer while you get away from the rat race.

With an average of 120" of snowfall in the area each year, Northern Aroostook County offers some of the best outdoor experiences around.

For those who want to check our local trail conditions, these are some of the better sites for our areas...These sites include information on local sled clubs, trail conditions, sledding regulations, trail maps and weather reports.

The Valley received over 200 inches of snow for the winter of 2007-2008...The snowmobile trails were very well maintained and

the local population enjoyed everything that winter has to offer.

Come join us for a great winter vacation!
